This year 2003 we made our
third visit to FITUR to represent the British Naturist Federation
(CCBN). This major European exhibition has great importance
for British Naturists for Spain has the greatest number of British
tourists both in the naturist as well as the textile world.
The level of interest in naturism continues to grow in Spain
and as well as developing contacts for British visitors there
is also the opportunity to show the major tour operators and
the holiday towns and regions that naturism exists and is looking
for new areas to develop.
This year most of our stocks of information were used by the
third day showing the level of interest in Great Britain which
despite its common believe as a cold and wet country can still
be an attractive holiday destination. With its 125 naturist
clubs it has much to offer the visiting naturist and a warm
summer climate provides a pleasant change to the hotter parts
of Spain.
The naturist holiday centers in Spain continue to grow and now
can offer camping and caravanning holidays during the warmer
seasons or villa and apartments or mobile homes for all year
round holiday visits. In the capital the new swimming pool use
for naturists gives the visitor the opportunity to practice
naturism in convivial company while including Madrid on their
schedule.
The CCBN offers its members a holiday advice service for those
visiting Spain and also a service for prospective naturist visitors
to Gt. Britain. For contact information visit WWW.british-naturism.org.uk
or write to CCBN 30 - 32 Wycliffe Road, NORTHAMPTON, NN1 5JF.
England. Telephone from Spain 0044 1604 62 03 61.
We must thank our friends in Madrid for the invitation to be
part of what must now be considered the most important travel
and leisure exhibition in Europe and for the considerable work
they have undertaken in putting Spanish naturism firmly on the
map.
We hope to see you soon in Gt. Britain.

FITUR 2003... lots of travel
information amidst a cornucopia of gastronomic delights. This
February weekend, the world is at your doorstep... this doorstep
to the world. And right in the middle of all the hustle and
bustle around worldwide travel information, I find myself helping
to promote the benefits of Spanish naturism to the largest travel
audience I ever saw. Imagine having a naturist booth right next
to the respected Guardia Civil at the largest travel trade show
in Europe.
For a country with a fairly young naturist organization, the
level of volunteerism and cooperation of the various Spanish
naturist groups is remarkable. What is even more remarkable
from a North American perspective, is the level of acceptance
from the various travel audiences - trade and public alike.
Idle time was in very short supply. Spare moments were used
for organizing many other activities. Saturday morning Carlos
Gil arranged for Mick Ayers, of British Naturist fame, and myself
to be interviewed on "Radio Nacional de España",
Spain's national radio program TREBEDE, to talk about our most
favourite subject in relation to the travel trade show taking
place this same weekend.
Around the same time, a group of volunteers met at the pool
complex of "Casa de Campo", right smack in the centre
of Madrid, to run the monthly naturist swim. The inaugural swim
- another important naturist milestone - took place October
5 2002, after a year-long contract was signed with city officials.
Now in its fifth month, the swim has always been well attended
and certainly well respected.
In the afternoon I was invited to observe the Executive of the
F.E.N and A.D.N. as they discussed plans for the next Inter-federal
Western European Meeting to be held in June 2003 at "El
Templo de Sol" in the south of Catalonia. No stranger to
such meetings, Mick was an invaluable source of organizational
knowledge. What Tony Blair is to George Bush, Mick is to Spanish
Naturism... a staunch supporter through thick and thin.
At FITUR in February 2003 and well into the future everywhere
else in the world... Spanish Naturism is leaving its barefoot
tracks in the sand and making its mark. |
